Zarani Risjad is a creative producer who works in curatorial and communication roles. Zarani was previously based in Singapore, where she worked on the curation and production of the quarterly visual magazine Kult before co-founding the alternative art space Kult Gallery. Writing about art and design led to a role in communications for Industry+, a contemporary design and manufacturing company that launched collections by Dai Sugasawa and nendo, among other Asian talents, from 2014 to 2016. During this time, Industry+ curated and produced Sori Yanagi’s retrospective ‘beauty born, not made’ (Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, 2014-2015), as well as the ‘The Alchemists’ project, which was shown at the Triennale di Milano in 2015 and Singapore Art Museum in 2016.
Zarani has been based in Jakarta, Indonesia, since 2017, where she has curated exhibitions such as 'Use Your Illusion' (Edwin's Gallery, 2019), 'Chromaticity' (Cans Gallery, 2019), 'Past Present Future' (Ruci, 2022), 'Naluri' (D'Gallerie, 2022), and 'A Thousand Words' (Orasis Artspace, 2023). Zarani co-founded Baseline, a creative production studio that created and produced 'Bebunyian Sound Art Festival' (Surabaya, 2023). Zarani also manages Studio 22nya, an intimate art space that showcases independent artists.
